Looking for something more fuel efficient than a Prius? If so, Toyota has some new lean, mean and fully electric machines in the works.

The FT-EV II (Future Toyota Electric Vehicle), an electric concept car from Toyota, will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. It is “part two” of Japanese automaker's FT-EV concept car trilogy. They recently unveiled their first FT-EV at the North American International Auto Show.

Who needs foot pedals for acceleration or braking? The FT-EV II uses a joystick, which features drive-by-wire technology. It also has integrated enhanced communications technology allowing it to connect to home networks for storing energy and saving data.

Some of the other cool features offered in this concept car are electric sliding doors, room for four and is less than nine feet in length. The lithium-ion battery has a range of 56 miles and gives the FT-EV II a top speed of 63 mph.

While it will not be available for consumer purchase for a few years, the FT-EV concept trilogy is garnering a lot of attention. Toyota has promised to deliver an electric car by 2012, so stay tuned.

The Tokyo Motor Show opens October 23, with a media preview day on October 21.
