Building Performance Institute (BPI) is a national standards development and credentialing organization for residential energy efficiency retrofit work. BPI provides training on building science for individual technician certifications and contractor accreditations. BPI standards or equivalent are cited by the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Whole house programs being developed by utilities will encourage or may require that contractors have BPI accreditation and technicians have individual certification. We encourage contractors who wish to be on the cutting edge of building science and who may participate in whole house programs to sign up for training courses at www.bpi.com.
